Recently, Google has added some extra features regarding “in-Depth” stories based on a right-hand sidebar thing. Basically, this will give you regional news stories based on your region, which is determined by whatever IP address you’re showing when you connect to them. Apparently, Google did research recently that indicates that at least 10 percent of people searching online want more in-depth articles. So this is why Google is putting effort into highlighting these types of articles. The question is, how will this affect content online? Will it actually improve as a result?
Majority Vs. 10 Percent
Most people who search form something online are just looking for a quick answer to a question. So the regular search results that tend to have shorter articles will give them what they need, and then they can move on. But for people who want more information, Google is trying to make it easier for them due to the fact that the current system tends to devalue longer form articles that may not score high on the current way relevance is recorded. The “in depth” box listed alongside traditional search results is designed to help fix this.
Where Are the Results Coming from?
Google is going to rely on places like The New Yorker and other places that specialize in long form content to get more intense and under the surface looks at subjects. Google goes on to say that the sites they will list will often require additional cost to get the full article. But apparently, the research they’ve done indicates that the 10 percent of people who need more customized results are willing to pay a little extra to get them. This is a general consensus among a lot of people online, and it’s something that’s generally growing. People really want more information and the influx of bad search results based on all the tricksters and spammers is something that Google has tasked itself with fixing for quite a long time now. This trend is only likely to continue into the future.
Google’s Content Focus and How It Affects You
Obviously, it’s not like this trend from Google is a new thing. It’s done a lot of other updates like Panda that have tried to improve the current status of Google’s search results online for quite a while now. It’s likely that not just Google, but many different organizations online will keep focusing on this trend of adding content that is of a considerably higher quality nature than stuff that has been written in the past. Many people are sick of reading articles that don’t make any sense, or that don’t have any truth to them.
As a result, many people who do business online are getting help from places like the occasional PPC management agency in order to make sure that their content and advertising techniques are still up to date and that they will work well regardless of the continual raising of the bar Google is doing in terms of what they will index online.
